As 2018 ends, Microsoft, not Apple, is the most valuable public company in the world

Even though Apple was the most valuable publicly traded company in the world for most of 2018, and at one time was valued at over $1 trillion, Microsoft came out of nowhere to end the year as the world's most valuable publicly traded firm.
